Drama Republic is incredibly proud that series 2 of My Mad Fat Diary won the Best Drama award at the Mind Media Awards 2014.
The annual awards celebrate the best portrayals and reporting of mental health in the media. Organised by mental health charity Mind, the awards honour broadcasters, bloggers and journalists who have made an exceptional contribution to changing attitudes and tackling mental health stigma.
Of the 2014 awards Mind said: “The Mind Media Awards 2014 were dominated by young winners, as the BBC3 documentary ‘Diaries of a Broken Mind’, teen drama ‘My Mad Fat Diary’, 15-year old blogger Ellen White and Radio 1 took home the top prizes.” The ceremony, held at the BFI on Monday 17th November, was hosted by comedian Helen Lederer, and also featured guest presentations from TV presenter Jameela Jamil and actress Denise Welch.
Mad Fat writer Tom Bidwell was in attendance to receive the award and give an acceptance speech. Sharon Rooney, who plays Rae in the series, couldn’t be present personally, but recorded her acceptance speech on video, which can be viewed HERE.
