RIOT WOMEN
BBC One & BritBox
Sally Wainwright’s bold drama Riot Women is written and created by the multi-BAFTA award-winning writer.
A teacher, a police officer, a publican, a midwife and a shoplifting freeloader form a punk rock band to enter a local talent contest, and soon realise they have far more to shout about than they ever expected. What starts as a rebellious midlife experiment becomes something deeper, as rehearsals bring buried tensions, unexpected truths and fierce loyalty to the surface.
Set and filmed in Hebden Bridge, West Yorkshire, the six-part series is a sharp, funny and emotionally honest story about friendship, reinvention and refusing to go quietly.
The series stars Joanna Scanlan, Rosalie Craig, Lorraine Ashbourne and Tamsin Greig, and is directed by Amanda Brotchie and Sally Wainwright. It is produced by Jessica Taylor and executive produced by Roanna Benn and Sally Wainwright.
Riot Women is made by Drama Republic for the BBC in a co-commission with BritBox, with worldwide distribution handled by Mediawan Rights.
